Another Mutant Bound for a Comeback in ‘Days of Future Past’

X-Men: Days of Future Past is a veritable class reunion of X-Men movie characters, many of whom have already been revealed to the general public, but how about a character who hasn’t been seen since the first film? A character who died in X-Men, the recipient of the worst tough guy line in the history cinema, is apparently joining the fun in the upcoming film. But while the character is returning, the actor who originally played him is not. You might even say the producers are sticking their tongue out at him. If you haven’t guessed from any of the clever hints yet (or the graphic above), I’m talking about Toad. In an interview with MTV, the young actor Evan Jonigkeit talked about playing the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants staple in Days. I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool… The aesthetics of the character are much different [from the first film], and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that. Obviously his comments are limited to a brief aside that doesn’t really tell us anything. It seems likely though that Toad will be part of the nascent Brotherhood formed by the young Magneto (played by Michael Fassbender), and the make-up involved can’t be anymore horrible than what Ray Park wore in the first film. As for Evan Jonigkeit, if you’re racking your brain trying to recognize how you know the name, don’t bother. He’s a relative fresh face in the business with only a few credits to his name. Still, an interesting addition to the Days line-up. X-Men: Days of Future Past opens on May 23rd.
